FL Technics, a global provider of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services as part of Avia Solutions Group, has been consistently strengthening its market position. While continuing the global service development process started in 2016, this year the company intends to reach a turnover of nearly EUR 400 million. Compared to 2013 when turnover was EUR 80 mln.
By 2030, FL Technics Group intends to generate a turnover of EUR 1 billion from its aircraft maintenance and repair services business, both those initiated earlier and new ones. As stated in a press release, this will open up the opportunity for the group to become one of the leaders in the global MRO industry.
FL Technics Group that employs over 2,500 aviation professionals is formed of 26 companies in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia and the Pacific.
‘Our team of professionals, along with our focussing on efficient MRO solutions, has enabled us to achieve an annual growth of 10-15%, whereas the global MRO sector average is just 2-3%. Today we are among the Top 10 major independent MROs in the global aircraft maintenance and repair sector that are not owned by scheduled service airlines,’ – says Zilvinas Lapinskas, CEO at FL Technics. – ‘We are not going to slow down in the future as we work with such global aviation brands as Wizz Air, Norwegian, Lufthansa, TUI, AirAsia Indonesia, Lion Air, Thai Vietjet; in the Canadian market – with Delta, Flair and American Airlines. By providing services of highest quality, we attract and maintain best clients.’
The company is also developing its global infrastructure for MRO services by building and expanding hangars and maintenance facilities in various regions, including Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Expanding into these regions will enable FL Technics to provide more airlines across the world access to the highest quality and dependable maintenance services.
‘Observation of market trends in the area of demand for and supply of the MRO services has led us to focus on the opening of new hangars in such markets as the Americas, and markets that are well known to us – Indonesia and Europe. The Dominican Republic is one of our development locations; the hangar there will serve the US, Canada and Latin American market. Construction of a new MRO hangar at the Punta Cana international airport has already started. At first the hangar will have five aircraft servicing bays, with an expansion to 12 bays in the future,’ – Zilvinas Lapinskas shares the group’s development plans. According to Zilvinas Lapinskas, both heavy and line aircraft maintenance services are going to be provided at Punta Cana.
The second development project of the Group is in Indonesia: the Denpasar airport on the island of Bali. At the end of November this year, FL Technics will open hangars here. The company will not confine itself to this project in Indonesia, and construction of yet another hangar complex in Jakarta is planned for 2026. A specialised hospital engine shop for CFM56 family engines will be established there – an analogous one is already in operation in Kaunas. On completion of the hangar project in Indonesia, FL Technics will be able to service as many as 20 aircraft simultaneously.
According to Zilvinas Lapinskas, apart from the plans for Indonesia and the Americas, another development stage has been earmarked for Europe as well.
‘We have become world leaders in the area of aircraft wheel and brake servicing. FL Technics stands out in the market by the diversity of its services on a ‘one-stop-shop’ basis: from aircraft repairs and operational inspections to aircraft component sale, engine repairs, wheel and brake maintenance, aircraft interior and exterior design solutions, CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation) services, aviation components, aerospace logistics and warehousing, and technical training services,’ – says the CEO.
According to Zilvinas Lapinskas, capacities of and scope of services provided by FL Technics differ from region to region. For example, during the past two years, the company has considerably expanded its specialised wheel and brake servicing portfolio that covers maintenance of critical aircraft parts and systems. FL Technics has concluded long-term contracts for this service for more than 600 aircraft, becoming the world’s second service provider (according to capacities). At the end of this year, the company intends to open a service centre of this type in Bergamo, Italy.
The CEO reveals the company‘s plans to develop specialised CAMO services centre in Manilla, the capital of the Philippines. The centre will ensure that each aircraft fully complies with all the safety and technical requirements throughout the period of its operation. It is estimated that the centre managed by FL Technics in Manilla will employ 200 specialists for the servicing of aircraft of 14 airlines.
As FL Technics expands in Latin America, it is developing capabilities to meet the needs of the region. The company is currently investing in and equipping its state-of-the-art facilities to increase its capabilities through the purchase of aviation assets, such as airframes, engines, APUs and landing gears for teardown and repair purposes.
‘On completion of all current projects and by developing new ones, we intend to reach a turnover of EUR 1 billion from aircraft repair and maintenance services by 2030. This opens up the opportunity for us to become a leading service provider in the sector,’ – Zilvinas Lapinskas is confident in the company‘s success.
